Leben und Wirken
Bliss war der Sohne seines gleichnamigen Vaters Nathaniel Bliss, einem WirkwarenhΓ€ndler. Er immatrikulierte sich am 10. Oktober 1716cite-ref-1[1] am Pembroke College in Oxford. Dort graduierte Bliss 1720 zum Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) und 1723 zum Master of Arts (M.A.). Kurz darauf heiratete er Elizabeth Hillman (1700β1779). 1736 wurde Bliss Rektor der St Ebbeβs Church in Oxford.
1742 wurde er Nachfolger von Edmond Halley als Savilian Professor of Geometry an der UniversitΓ€t Oxford. 1762 wurde er als Nachfolger von James Bradley der vierte Astronomer Royal.
